Self-Grooming, University Student Edition.

28 Mar

Hey there!

It has been a relatively rainy and bitter first week of Spring for me! At least I am finally able to switch the winter jacket for a lighter coat! With all these weather swings, so typical of March, I could not help but wonder how to take care of my hair and skin with this wind, sun, and rain. Thing is, that no matter how nicely you are dressed, if your hair looks dull and messy, if your skin is blemished, and your nails are poorly groomed, all your efforts to go out with a nice modern outfit are meaningless!

These are the three most important parts you have to constantly take care of. Of course, when it comes to grooming, you should again try and find out what works best for your personality. There is an endless number of options that experimenting is a must!

“I changed three different colors before I decided to stick with red,” said Xhulia, an Albanian sophomore at AUBG. “I believe that red fits me best. It makes me feel more confident because it is a very distinct color that speaks for itself.”

Live, love, AURA!

19 Mar

AURA is the radio of my university, and is one of the coolest clubs to be in. Since this year I am also a part of the team, and, to be honest, this is one of the best things that ever happened to me. It is simply amazing – we are a bunch of around 40 students, who have one thing in common – the love to music. Even the alumni still keep coming back and participate actively in the development of our radio! AURA earned a special place in my heart very quickly and made my life more colorful by bringing some wonderful people around me…

Last Friday we celebrated its 20th birthday with a huge party that attracted not only students, but locals too. It was a blast!

Here is a sneak-peak into our cocktail party, organized for AURA members and alumni, other clubs representatives, and faculty. Gosh, it was a night to remember! Everyone looked simply stunning!

For the party I wore a ZARA dress and Mango black velvet pumps with a ZARA pearl-covered clutch.

So this is me..

So this is me..

In the Closet of… | An “It Girl”

20 Feb

Dear reader,

You must have noticed those girls on the street. They are pretty, very natural, without too much make up, and with those stunning outfits that immediately grab the attention. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the “It Girls“, or the girls everyone wants to be. For my current post, I wanted to find such a girl and take a look into her world, and, of course learn more about the do’s and don’ts of clothing nowadays.

When Vanity Fair Turns into a Reality Show

6 Feb

Dear bloggers,

The post you are reading is inspired by a documentary I watched in my Media Law and Ethics class a couple of days ago.

“Killing Us Softly 4” examined how advertising and fashion have distorted the ideals of femininity, causing sexism, eating disorders, and gender violence. It left me with mixed feelings, anxiety and resentment prevailing. Since when has fashion become a tool to suppress, rather than to express a person’s individuality?

There is a very thin line between veneration and addiction when it comes to fashion, and, since I am writing a blog on clothing and style, I want to make the clear statement what I am not writing about and why.

vic·tim, noun, \ˈvik-təm\ –  one that is acted on and usually adversely affected by a force or agent

fash·ion, noun,  [fash-uhn]  – a prevailing custom or style of dress, etiquette, socializing, etc.

A fashion victim is a person, who is adversely affected by the force of prevailing custom of dress, etiquette, and, most of all, style of living.

As much as I would like to think of myself as a discoverer of the illness of modern society that fashion has become for many people, I have to say that there is nothing new under the sun. Vanity has been reigning over society for a long, long time, depriving us from what really matters – to feel good in your own skin.

A Perception of Fashion, Male Edition.

30 Jan

Dear bloggers and readers,

It has been a hell of a week for me, even though it’s still the beginning of the semester! However, as a devoted blogger, I have promised to post regularly and find all sorts of people to talk about all sorts of topics with. Still, I never thought that the first person I will interview for my fashion blog, will be a young man! Who says fashion is only for women? Just because guys talk less about it, doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t care at all!

And here I am, writing a post on a young lad’s opinion on fashion! Dimitar Balabanov is an overly-talkative sophomore in AUBG, majoring in Business Administration and Economics. However, his area of interests spreads to a wide range of topics. You can even listen to him hosting in several shows on Radio AURA – a perfect hobby for such a gregarious person!

Despite Dimitar’s versatile interests, we met to talk primarily about the impact fashion has on his everyday life. It turned out that for him, clothing is an important tool to show who you are at first sight.
