Self-Grooming, University Student Edition.

28 Mar

Hey there!

It has been a relatively rainy and bitter first week of Spring for me! At least I am finally able to switch the winter jacket for a lighter coat! With all these weather swings, so typical of March, I could not help but wonder how to take care of my hair and skin with this wind, sun, and rain. Thing is, that no matter how nicely you are dressed, if your hair looks dull and messy, if your skin is blemished, and your nails are poorly groomed, all your efforts to go out with a nice modern outfit are meaningless!

These are the three most important parts you have to constantly take care of. Of course, when it comes to grooming, you should again try and find out what works best for your personality. There is an endless number of options that experimenting is a must!

“I changed three different colors before I decided to stick with red,” said Xhulia, an Albanian sophomore at AUBG. “I believe that red fits me best. It makes me feel more confident because it is a very distinct color that speaks for itself.”

Fashion Aid | How to Dress for a Cocktail Party

20 Mar

I have always loved formal events because they are a rare occasion for me to dress up with clothes I would be feeling overdressed with otherwise. Speaking of, it is sometimes tricky and unclear how exactly to dress for formal or semi-formal events. The cocktail party I organized with my team from radio AURA for its 20th birthday inspired me for a new post devoted to dress codes, especially when it comes to cocktails!

Cocktails are usually classified as semi-formal evening or late afternoon events. They serve as a transition between two bigger events or as an event preceding a more formal one in order to reduce the number of quests, who arrive late. A cocktail is the perfect occasion for socializing with other invitees while enjoying soft alcoholic drinks like wine and cocktails, and eating appetizers. Oh, I love cocktails! However, since you are there mainly for communicating with new people it is important to know how to dress for it and make a memorable first impression! Remember that it is always better to be a bit overdressed than underdressed!

There are certain rules, for both men and women, which you can follow when choosing your outfit for a cocktail. I also talked with Dimira Teneva, who is part of the DJs team in radio AURA, and asked her for some advice. I hope you will find my post helpful!

Live, love, AURA!

19 Mar

AURA is the radio of my university, and is one of the coolest clubs to be in. Since this year I am also a part of the team, and, to be honest, this is one of the best things that ever happened to me. It is simply amazing – we are a bunch of around 40 students, who have one thing in common – the love to music. Even the alumni still keep coming back and participate actively in the development of our radio! AURA earned a special place in my heart very quickly and made my life more colorful by bringing some wonderful people around me…

Last Friday we celebrated its 20th birthday with a huge party that attracted not only students, but locals too. It was a blast!

Here is a sneak-peak into our cocktail party, organized for AURA members and alumni, other clubs representatives, and faculty. Gosh, it was a night to remember! Everyone looked simply stunning!

For the party I wore a ZARA dress and Mango black velvet pumps with a ZARA pearl-covered clutch.

So this is me..

The Recipe for the Ultimate Spring Break

10 Mar

You might have wondered why I haven’t posted anything this week so far. Well, bloggers also need an escape from work, and I just came back from my Spring break. Ahh, it was a week to remember! The end of winter in Bulgaria is usually a period of numerous festivals, celebrations, and parties that remind us of the upcoming summer we all long for. I attended several events, which, combined with a couple of days at home, with awesome food and considerable amount of sleep, helped me restore my enthusiasm and wake up from winter lethargy.

After I finished my exams, I rushed back home, impatient to indulge my appetite for homemade food and desire to simply do nothing. Luckily, I got there just in time for the annual international festival Kukerlandia, held in my hometown, Yambol, during the period from Feb. 26 to Mar. 2. It is a very interesting celebration, which marks the approaching end of winter and is an occasion which gathers people from all over Bulgaria. In this year’s festival 2500 people from 11 Bulgarian municipalities and also from the Balkans, took part in Kukerlandia, which basically represents centuries of old traditions to scare away evil spirits, with costumed men performing the ritual. It is a very lively and colorful festival, which everyone loves; the town was so noisy and crowded that one could have never remained unmoved by the emotions!

Here is a slideshow, which depicts some interesting moments and costumes of Kukerlandia, because words are never enough to describe such an event!

Fashion is What You Make Out of It

27 Feb

“Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.”

–        Greg Anderson

Six weeks ago, I started a journey. I was curious to know what fashion is for people and whether it is possible to find out who they are just by observing their clothes. It has been extremely entertaining and engaging to look for people with a distinct opinion on fashion; what was even funnier, was to actually talk with them.

We live in such a materialistic society nowadays, that people hardly judge you on your awesome personality right away – a conclusion I came up with after my talk with Dimitar. A very observant person, he says he always pays attention on how people look. However, it is not simply about wearing the latest trends; it is about wearing the right clothes for you, the ones that you feel confident in.

“I think the important thing in this whole life is that you just gotta feel good,” said Dimitar deliberately. “If wearing a certain type of clothes makes you feel better, then why not, you know.”

I did not really expect to have a fulfilling conversation on fashion with a guy, but Dimitar really helped me realize that even guys care about how they are dressed, and that people always greet you by the way you look. How they send you away, though, is up to you.

Media nowadays has a highly adverse effect on shaping the ideals of femininity and beauty. Advertising has caused sexism, eating disorders, and gender violence with women being the main victims. According to Boryana, it is sad that today many people confuse fashion with style to such extent that sometimes the outcomes are catastrophic.
